Master Bedroom Plans

Coming up with plans for the master bedroom was one of the easiest rooms to make decisions on, given the fact that we are hardly changing anything.

One of the biggest changes will be the paint color. Our current master is tan but I am painting the new master a grey color called Bay Waves by Valspar. I wanted a gray with a more blue undertone since we have blue-gray in the curtains. We are keeping the same bedding since we just bought it after the wedding but we are adding a pallet wall behind where the bed will be. I have been kind of obsessed with all things pallet so I am very excited to incorporate this into the master.

We are also keeping the same curtains that I bought from Target a few months ago. I love way they have grey and brown in them, which is a color combo that I hadn't really thought of until I saw these curtains and now it is almost the theme of our bedroom.

In the current master we each have side tables that have these little lamps on them and the gold mirrors behind them. The mirrors add light to the room when the lamps are on and mirrors also tend to make a room feel bigger if they are in the right spot. Because the wall we have chosen to put the bed against is smaller than the wall our bed is against in the current house, I am not positive if we will be able to use the same end tables or put the mirrors in the same places. But until I find out I can't fit them, I plan on keeping the same set up.

A few other things I plan to do in the master is to repaint our current dresser which I am thinking of doing ombre and I am going to create mini gallery wall of our wedding pictures!

P.S.
Yesterday we officially closed and received our keys!!! Of course, I already started painting but I did make sure and get "before" pictures of nearly every corner of the house so keep an eye out for that post!

Kitchen Plans

Sorry for the delay in posts, getting everything finished up for closing and packing has been taking up the majority of my time.

Now for the decor plans for our kitchen! One of my personal favorite rooms of a house is the kitchen. Josh and I are big food lovers and both really enjoy cooking so the kitchen is very important to us.

The new kitchen has dark cabinets and we are adding a dark back splash and dark flooring but because there is tons of natural light, it will all balance so well!

I will be painting the wall a neutral tan that is actually called Rock by Valspar. I am so excited to be using old burlap coffee sacks as curtains for small windows and am undecided about curtains or blinds for the two regular sized windows that we have.

I love the mixed stone of the back splash! We have stainless appliances and the back splash contains pieces of stainless that will coordinate perfectly.

There is currently an out dated and unattractive light fixture above the sink that we are planning on changing to a smaller and more rustic style, probably bronze, pendant similar to the one in my picture. There is also a flush mount fluorescent light in the kitchen that I don't  hate but it has a white border that I am planning to paint bronze to match the pendant above the sink.

A few other things that will be in the kitchen are my canisters with chalkboard labels and colorful lids, glass containers and mason jars for dry pasta and decorating. We have built in shelving in the kitchen that has exposed corner shelves that I can't wait to fill with cookbooks, pictures and teapots!

Entryway Decor Plans!

One of the most important places to decorate in our home is the entryway. It is the first impression of our home's interior. When I try and think of what the style of the decor I will have in our home, I can't help but think of a combination of farmhouse, vintage, cottage and cozy-ness! I want my home to feel inviting and I want guests to walk in and feel like they could stay forever.

Our home is full of very dark trim throughout the main floor which is one of my favorite features therefore no, I am not painting it white. There is something about the look and feel of the dark, rich, brown of original trim that makes me happy!

The above image contains just a few of the items that you will find when you walk through our front door!

The paint color we chose is called Fioli Antique Lace which is a Valspar paint color from Lowe's. We actually have this color in our current kitchen and although I feared it would be too yellow, it is more of a buttery color and it is such a warm color!

The oriental style rug is one that Josh got a deal on from Lowe's that we are planning to put in the entryway. I originally wanted something neutral but, the more I thought about it the more a darker color made sense as the rug for the main entrance of the house. We recently thought about the fact that this rug might be too large being that it is a 5'x7' and we aren't sure of the size of the entryway, but if anything,  it could become a great rug for another room!

The swatch in the bottom left corner is a fabric I found that I love from Joann's which I would like to use to make a small curtain for our half window. I am also thinking about using it to make a curtain for the inside of the front door that is full glass panels. I haven't purchased the fabric yet so I may not get this specific one, but something similar with neutral tans and hopefully a touch of yellow/gold that will accent the wall color.

Lastly, this is a light fixture that I have found in many different ways that I plan on creating in one of my DIY projects. This specific light and many similar to it are made of wine barrel rings which give such a rustic touch that I LOVE as the focal point of the entryway vs. a chandelier.

A few other things that you will find when you step into our front door that are not pictured are a gallery wall going up our grand staircase, some sort of hanging fixture for coats, possibly an entryway bench and more than likely an entryway table.

I cannot wait to get the before pictures taken and share the progress!

Stay tuned for my plans for the rest of the main floor and master bedroom :)

The house is ours!

The day after Christmas we received a belated present in the form of a phone call informing us that our loan was approved and we are officially home owners!!

We could not be more excited! Anyone who has purchased a home knows the time and stress that comes with the process and to finally see the light at the end of this tunnel is exactly what we needed!

We do still have a few more steps in this process but we are expected to take possession by the end of January at the latest. What a fabulous way to start our 2014!

This big, beautiful house with a touch of Craftsman Style is our new forever house that we can't wait to transform into our home. The main level is full of character with original hardwood floors and dark trim, an updated kitchen with solid oak trim and cabinets! The upper level is more traditional with white trim but also has a claw foot tub. EEK! What a dream! There is also a good sized basement that we will finish someday and a great sized yard!

I will post pictures of the house as it is once I can and then as we make changes and improvements I will post updates. I already have tons of crafts and DIY projects in mind for the house and I cannot wait to share them!

The Beginning

Welcome to our small corner of the blog world!

I am so thrilled to be finally launching this blog. I have been wanting to start a blog for quite some time and there is no time like the present!

For those who don't know a lot about me, my name is Cricket and my husband is Josh. We have been together for a little over 2 1/2 years and have been married for almost 3 months! We are in the process of purchasing our first home together and I want to share our journey!

I absolutely love crafting, home decor, cooking, photography and turning pinterest ideas into a reality!

I am not sure how often I will be able to post at first given the fact that we don't know for sure when the house will officially be ours, but since quality is better than quantity, we should be just fine :)

Thank you so much for checking the blog out and I hope you will come back soon!
